Letter from the President and Fundraising Update, Winter 2011-2012

Dear Covenant Men:

Hope you had a good holiday season. We also hope that the inspiration of the Fall Retreat and the message of Pastor Harvey Drake are still with you and that you will carry this enthusiasm for serving Christ into the New Year. God has richly blessed us!

At the Fall Retreat we began a list of those who might be interested in spending one week on a mission project in Alaska this next summer (See letter below from Alaska Christian College's Jackie Smith). If you would be interested please let us know so we can keep you informed of developments for this mission project trip.

As we approach the end of the year and the end of the fiscal year for most of us we would ask that you prayerfully consider the opportunity we have to give in support for Covenant Men ministries. There is great need for ministry to villagers in remote areas of Alaska such as is done by KICY Radio in Nome Alaska and by Mission Aviation Repair Center (MARC) with their aviation ministry to isolated areas of the state. Also, there is great need for the education ministries of Alaska Christian College (ACC) and Amundsen Education Center (AEC) serving young people from the villages that are moving on to new careers.

Please see the attached pledge / donation card and make a choice for furthering God’s ministries in Alaska that have been an important aspect of Covenant Men’s ministries.

Sincerely,

Covenant Men Board

Jim Milton, Chairman

News regarding opportunities for work projects in Summer 2012 at Alaska Christian College

Greetings from snowy Alaska!

For work trips to Alaska Christian College this summer, here’s the scoop:

Our primary project for 2012 is the re-roofing of our main admin building.  It’s a big project, but we can complete it in stages, and will use a contractor to oversee the work so that we work methodically.  We have some renovation, landscaping & maintenance work that will take place, and the usual cleaning after students leave and before they return.

As during 2011, the library will require minimal support, and our kitchen is fully staffed, so we will not have work other than construction and grounds projects.  All volunteers should be prepared to work outdoors, and some lifting will be required in most cases.  We can especially use folks who have experience with small machinery, lawn equipment maintenance and repair, and a mechanic, in addition to carpenters, general construction, skilled construction, etc.

Perfect team size is 15-20 persons.  Due to housing and transportation limitations, more than 20 are very difficult to accommodate.  We also need to limit the size of teams to what we can supervise, so we’ll hold the top number to 20.  We estimate that we’ll need a total 7-9 teams to complete the work we have planned, so we won’t use all of the proposed weeks, but we do need to staff the roofing (May and June) and the campus reset weeks.

Weather will require that we get the roofing done early in the year, the rains will start in July, which will make that job much harder if it gets delayed.  If it is at all possible for your team to schedule early in the season, this will help us out a great deal.  Campus Reset will be teams who will clean and prepare the dorms and other buildings for summer in the May time-frame, and for return of students in August.

If you have a smaller team, please send a letter of intent.  We  can pair two smaller teams together so both can come.  We can also use smaller teams for the campus reset times, and perhaps those less able to participate in construction projects will find these projects do-able.

One thing we learned during the 2011 season, it’s hard work to host teams!  We’ve programmed some “down time” so that staff can take their vacations and we can recover from the flow of “guests” on campus.  I hope that this won’t be inconvenient, but we’re working on caring for staff as well as for our buildings and grounds.  Please contact me if this is a hardship, but we need to prioritize on getting the roof done, and we do need two contiguous weeks as a rest.

We anticipate the following available dates and probable work types:

May 5 -  May 12  --  Campus Reset from Students to Summer Project Teams

May 12 - May 19  -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

May 19 - May 26  -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

May 26 - June 2  -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

June 2 - June 9   -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

June 9 - June 16  -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

June 16 - June 23  -- Roofing & Renovation/Maintenance

June 24 - July 6  --  Staff Rest/Vacations

July 7 - July 14  - Renovation/Maintenance

July 14-July 21  - Renovation/Maintenance

July 21-July 28  Renovation/Maintenance

Aug 4 - Aug 11  --  Campus Reset for student return

God bless you for your fervent support of our students and our mission here at ACC, we couldn’t do what we do without you!

In His Service,
