Covenant Men Board Meeting
April 15, 2000
Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, John Prouty, Bud Olson and John Tissell

REPORTS: There is $70 in general fund for the log cabin and $350 for Village Ministries. The $70 will be moved to the log cabin savings account and the $350 will be sent to MARC.

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: Need to get bio info on Dr. Phelan and start brochure. We will use the NP Conference return address on the mailed brochures and they will be mailed first class. The cost of using "non profit" mailing is about the same and this way we will get back those with out of date addresses. Kerm will contact Kelly Ballard about leading the singing. Also he will check on Bud Palmberg as possible speaker for the 2001 retreat.  Ways of getting men acquainted were discussed. One suggestion was making table games available for the free time. Other possible free time activities are tennis, volley ball and boating. We need to promote the cabin fund.

CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING: Reservations are coming in very slow for the Men's Breakfast.

ALASKA: Kerm and John will leave for Nome May 21. They will spend about a week at Unalakleet wiring the generator at the Camp and possibly some repair at the Church. At KICY, they'll relevel the station and do some work at the new transmitter building. The major work at the transmitter will be later in the summer. John will stop at Bethel on his way home to do several small projects. The work won't start on their new building (the old Alaska Airline terminal) until fall at the earliest. (They need plans, permits and time to move the building.)

CONFERENCE PROJECTS: We haven't heard anything from the Korean Church in Kirkland regarding their obtaining the permit for the entry deck.

SCHOLARSHIPS: One recipient hasn't cashed the check yet.

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: No report. After the meeting, the oversize bed boards were trimmed. The problem was caused by some of the particle board panel being 49 x 97 instead of the expected 48 x 96. The template constructed to do the trimming will be used in future years to do the complete trim of the panels, use of a table saw will no longer be required.  The wiring of the log cabins appears to be correct. The contractor will do the trim, with Cascades responsible for furnishing the light fixtures. Outlet locations were checked for the new warming ovens. Four existing breakers will have to be replaced with half size breakers at the Rec Building to obtain space for the added 50 Amp 2 pole breaker. One breaker will need to be relocated in the panel at Tahoma to get a 2 pole space. This will max out this panel, however half size breakers could be used later if more breaker space is needed. The circuit list at Tahoma will be reprinted to add the new breaker and correct the list since someone has made an incorrect change. (The smoke detector breaker is shown at a space where there is no breaker.) Surface conduit may be required in the kitchen if there is solid blocking between the ceiling joists.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be May 13, 2000 at Cascades Camp and Conference Center.

John Tissell, Secretary
