Men Board Meeting Present: Kerm Paulsen, John Prouty, Dick Lundberg, Bud Olson, Jim Neary, Carl Hultquist and John Tissell The meeting opened with Bud reading from Paul's letter to the Corinthians. Prayer was then offered by all present with special concern for the fall retreat, the work in Alaska and Don Irvine's wife and children. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: We need to consider distributing posters publicizing the retreat. This used to be done but was dropped when we changed to computer generated retreat bulletins. The question was asked "How many churches have Men's bulletin boards?" Followed by the comment that the women always seem to have one. Part time registration was set at $40. This is applicable mainly to pastors that must leave Saturday night. Saturday (meals only) was set at $20. We may need to provide a rental car for the speaker. Kerm will check to be certain that his transportation is taken care of. The speaker will be going to the Covenant Bible College in Canada from the retreat so there may be some splitting of his air fare. We need to schedule the business meeting so it is clear that all are invited. We need to get ideas from the attendees on the direction Covenant Men should go. Have we emphasized the work in Alaska to the extent that other needs are missed? Since the men from each church typically room together, we should ask each room to appoint a man as the Covenant Men contact, for that church, for the coming year. We have received mixed information regarding scheduling the fall retreat. Some pastors claim that they can't attend since the pastor's retreat starts the Monday after the retreat. Other say this is a convenience since they can combine both retreats in a single trip. ALASKA: We will be checking with Len Wickstrom and Dave Petersen for ideas on the work planned in Alaska in 2001. John will contact Dave Dahms and Rod Sawyer to find out the schedule for work on the major building projects at Mat-Su and Bethel. The Mat-Su project may appeal to some since it will be one of the few locations that can be reached by auto from the lower 48. There is also good salmon fishing close by. CONFERENCE PROJECTS: We haven't heard of any projects needing our assistance in the Conference. SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships for the 2000-2001 school year will be paid in January 2001 (after the year 2000 interest is credited). CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Before and after the meeting the wiring to the trail and road lights to the recreation building was modified so that the lights would turn on from a single switch at the Rec Building. Unfortunately the controls were destroyed by the fire in the store room the following day. Defective and burned out street lights were repaired or replaced. We also installed an outlet for the warming oven in the kitchen and added 2 circuits of duplex outlets. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be 9:30 AM, October 21, 2000 at Cascades. The November 11 Board meeting will be in Portland. Start planning. John Tissell, Secretary |
