Covenant Men Board Meeting
February 12, 2000
Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, John Prouty, Harold Ulfers, Tom Moline, Bud Olson, Carl Hultquist and John Tissell.

Bud Olson read from the second chapter of Ephesians. This was followed by all leading in prayer.

REPORTS: The checking account has a balance of $859.49 and the savings account designated for a log cabin at Cascades has a balance of $312.26.

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION:

CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING: Kerm Paulsen and John Tissell will be the delegates from Covenant Men. Dick Lundberg and John Prouty are alternates. Kerm will check with the Mt. Vernon church regarding the Men's breakfast. Rev. Noel Cisneros has been asked to speak.

ALASKA: We will have to work our first trip in before camps start at Unalakleet on about June 3.  Since the trip has to be as late as possible to allow for the snow to melt, this will conflict with the traditional work day (Memorial Day week end) at Cascades. Very likely the barge will not be able to reach Nome with the material for the KICY transmitter by the end of May so a second trip may be required to complete the work at KICY.

CONFERENCE PROJECTS: We have been asked to built an entry deck, steps and handicap ramp for the Korean Church in Kirkland. Kerm will check with the Conference to determine if the required building permit has been obtained or if this is the responsibility of Covenant Men. (Is the church located in the city of Kirkland or unincorporated King County? This will greatly effect the time required to obtain a permit.)

SCHOLARSHIPS: So far only a "thank you" note from one of the two recipients.

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Clearing has started for the train camp.  So far many leads on sources for the engine and caboose. Tom is reviewing these in order to find something that is within budget and light enough to be transported to the Camp. Tom requested Covenant Men to construct 20 sets of bunk beds for the new cabins. With the conflict in schedule, we will attempt to build the bunk beds in March. (Tentatively March 9 - 11.) We will provide the Camp with a material list. The interior framing of the log cabins is underway and they will soon be ready for the electrical wiring. The plumbing will be done by others and will not be the responsibility of Covenant Men.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be March 18, 2000 at Cascades.

John Tissell, Secretary

Added notes: Breakfast at Mt. Vernon will be at 7:00 AM, cost $5. Vern is doing the interior framing and plumbing of log cabins. Our checking to date indicates that the Korean church is located in unincorporated King County and they do not have the permit. Covenant Men will attempt to apply for the permit during the week of February 27. The copy of the plans given to Covenant Men is lacking structural detail and this will need to be corrected before applying for the permit.
