Men Board Meeting Present: Kerm Paulsen, John Prouty, Bud Olson and John Tissell The board meeting was somewhat informal, being conducted during breaks in the barbecuing of the salmon. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: West Hills will take charge of the music and lead the meetings. The brochures have been printed and will be mailed to men who attended any of the last three retreats and also to each of the Conference churches. Due to a very large youth camp registration, Cascades Staff were unable to help prepare the brochure. Kerm was able to get assistance from the secretary at Newport. ALASKA: There was a good turn out of volunteers to help with the re-roofing of the Nome church. The North Pacific was well represented in the 18 workers. Typically the crew was served breakfast and dinner at the church, with most going to the senior center for lunch. The transmitter for KICY will arrive shortly. Dick Lundberg was able to get the electrical equipment mounted that was either on the barge that came after Kerm and John left or was shipped by Kerm when he returned home. Other than the new transmitter, the only major component missing is the automatic start and transfer switch for the emergency generator. It is still uncertain whether we will be asked to return to KICY in August to help with the final wiring. Both Kerm and John have free tickets available, however Alaska Airlines is extremely busy and it may not be possible to obtain a seat. (Only a limited number of seats are available to holders of frequent flyer coupons. In May it was necessary to upgrade the coupons to qualify for the remaining seats.) We still lack many of the details of Don's accident and death, but it appears that Kathy and the children will move to Soldotna. MARC has promised her a house (fully paid for). We may be asked to assist with the wiring. MARC expects to sell the 4 wheeler donated by North Pacific Covenant Men to Pastor Rick Hinkley. A person in Unalakleet has promised to complete the engine replacement in the suburban and then it will be sold and the money given Kathy. It appears that our help will not be needed at Unalakleet, however we have promised to be available if needed. Chip Swanson is attempting to reestablish contact with Covenant Men. Based on the reports of the miss use of the new generator at the camp and frozen water pipes at his church in Koyuk, it is difficult to think about doing work that will very likely end up destroyed. CONFERENCE PROJECTS: We haven't heard anything from the Korean Church in Kirkland regarding their obtaining the permit for the entry deck. SCHOLARSHIPS: All recipients have cashed their checks. However we have received only one acknowledgement from the receivers of the scholarships. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be 9:30 AM, September 9, 2000 at Cascades. John Tissell, Secretary |
