Covenant Men Board Meeting
May 13, 2000
Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, John Prouty, Dick Lundberg, Bud Olson and John Tissell

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: Kerm will contact Kelly Ballard about leading the singing. Haven't received "bio" from Dr. Phelan. Terry Whitcomb will develop the brochure. We will mail to past attendees via first class mail. The cost is approximately the same as "non profit" since there is a significant annual fee to qualify for "non profit". Also this way we will get address corrections for those who have moved (if forwarding has expired). Harvard has called and they are pushing the retreat. (Following the meeting, Kerm contacted Kelly. Kelly is attending graduate school in addition to his regular church duties and hesitates to commit to the time required to lead the singing. At the June 17 board meeting, we need suggestions for song leader. Kelly was outstanding last year and will be a hard act to follow.)

ALASKA: Kerm and John will leave for Nome May 21. The Covenant Church Nome is requesting help with reroofing the church. They have scheduled work days for June 26 - July 1 and July 10 - 15. Besides reroofing, they will need help replacing the entry doors. Kerm and John will attempt to get more information while they are in Nome. The Mt. Vernon church has tentatively promised to send a crew in July.

CONFERENCE PROJECTS: We haven't heard anything from the Korean Church in Kirkland regarding their obtaining the permit for the entry deck.

SCHOLARSHIPS: One recipient hasn't cashed the check yet.

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Summer camps are filling fast. The new staff members are fitting in well and doing a good job. They have a possible candidate to replace Cindy as program director. Work is progressing on finishing the bath rooms in the 3 completed log cabins.  Covenant Men have completed the installation of 50 amp 230 volt outlets for the new warming ovens at Tahoma and the Rec Building. It was noted that the oven delivered was marked 208 volts. Without the instruction manuals, it is not known whether this is a problem. Many appliances are suitable for either 208 or 230, some would require a simple "jumper" change and others may be strictly single voltage.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be 9:30 AM, June 17, 2000 at Cascades.

John Tissell, Secretary

Note: These minutes are being transcribed at Unalakleet and will be mailed by Kerm when he returns home in early June. I will not return until about 3 days before the June 17 meeting, so do not expect a postcard reminder of the board meeting.

June 7, 2000 note: Due to scheduling conflicts the meeting has been rescheduled to Sunday July 9 at the Family Camp barbecue.

Kerm
