Men Board Meeting Present: Kerm Paulsen, Bud Olson, John Prouty and John Tissell The meeting opened with Bud reading from the first chapter of I John. Prayer was then offered by those present. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: The group that led the singing for the 2000 retreat will be unable to do the music for the 2001 retreat due to several members having conflicting obligations the weekend of the retreat. Kerm has contacted Rob Rudeen from Valley Covenant, Eugene, OR and he has agreed to lead the singing. We need to check to be certain table games are available. It was suggested that the format of the meetings be: 1) open with music, 2) have the announcements, 3) music, 4) speaker. ALASKA: John returned August 24 after his second 3 week trip to work at the Alaska Christian College. He reported that they have used up their building funds and there are no groups of volunteers expected for the remainder of the summer. The boy's cabins have been made weather tight but need gypsum wall board, taping and painting. A water line has been run from the main building to the cabins, but technically a second well or deepening of the existing well is needed. The remodeling of the main building is on hold waiting for a permit from the Fire Marshall. There are no building permits required, but for a school, the Fire Marshall's OK is needed. The College has received a grant of over $490,000 but the terms of the grant prevent using any of the money for construction or remodeling. CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Covenant Men should anticipate building tables during the 2002 work weekend. The cedar tables built several years ago are in good condition, so it was strongly suggested that cedar be obtained for the new tables. Since it will require time to cut and season the cedar lumber, this should be scheduled for this fall. Cascades Camp will have to follow up on this since the cedar will be from Camp property. Covenant Men need to check to be certain that the templates and jigs used several years ago are still available and in working condition. (When Covenant Men constructed the last series of bunk beds it was discovered that several key templates were missing.) In order to construct the number of tables required, it will be necessary for several men to precut the parts before the week end the tables are assembled. Covenant Men will have work days September 14 and 15 to repair the night light wiring destroyed in the storeroom fire last spring. We made emergency repairs after the fire, but could not do anything permanent until the gypsum wall board was replaced. OTHER ITEMS: We continue to be concerned that sometime in the future a new board may spend the money for other than scholarships. Candidates for board member positions are needed. An additional officer from Oregon would allow ride pooling. It would also encourage scheduling more board meetings in Oregon. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Saturday September 15 at 9:30 AM. at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. The October meeting was tentatively scheduled for October 27.
