Covenant Men Board Meeting
July 21, 2001 Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, Bud Olson, Dick Lundberg, John Prouty, Harold Ulfers and John Tissell

The meeting opened with Bud reading from Colossians. Prayer was then offered by those present.

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: Moved, seconded and passed that one lapel mike be ordered in time for the fall retreat. We need to nominate some younger men to the board. Art Greco has been suggested as a future retreat speaker.

The web master has sent a CD to John Prouty containing everything on the web page. John will set this up in a computer at the retreat so any men interested in learning can be instructed in how to access and print the various pages.

ALASKA: Kerm and Dick arranged for the transfer of a van to the Amundson Educational Center (AEC) and then put it into working order. It was to be used to tow the Timber Miser to Soldotna. The AEC drivers had trouble in White Horse or Fort Nelson and purchased a replacement vehicle and left the van. The question was raised about any legal problems of abandoning a vehicle in Canada. It was agreed that if this was a problem, it wasn't the responsibility of Covenant Men.

A total of $2385 has been received for Kathy's house. A check will be sent to MARC to be applied to the material bill at Spenard Builder's Supply.

John Tissell reported on the work at Alaska Christian College. The cabins (boys dorm) have been started but the construction is slow and suffers from the lack of knowledgeable carpenters. The crews are working much less than the 5 or 6 days expected. The fire marshall hasn't approved the remodeling on the house. He has ruled that no more than 10 persons can live in the house without making extensive upgrades. Major work in the house is converting half of the garage into a dining room and moving the entry door to create an Arctic entry.

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Several persons have commented on the shortage of picnic tables. Also the tables moved to the Camp from Covenant Beach are starting to fail. Covenant Men should anticipate building tables during the 2002 work day. Since the non cedar tables from Covenant Beach are failing and the cedar tables built several years ago are in good condition, it was strongly suggested that cedar be obtained for the new tables. If no one can saw it at the camp, perhaps a mill will cut it to order in exchange for cedar. Cascades Camp will have to follow up on this since the cedar will be from Camp property.

OTHER ITEMS: The scholarship fund was discussed. The concern is that sometime in the future a new board may spend the money for other than scholarships. It will be investigated whether the moneys invested in National Covenant Properties can be made an "untouchable endowment" and withdrawals be limited to current interest only.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Saturday August 25 at 10:30 AM. at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. John Tissell may have trouble driving back from Alaska in time to make the meeting if his stay in Alaska needs to be extended due to Kathy's house being behind schedule.
