Men Board Meeting Present: Kerm Paulsen, Bud Olson, Dick Lundberg, Tom Moline and John Tissell. The meeting opened with Bud reading from Titus starting at 2:11. Prayer was then offered by those present. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: The preparation of the brochure is complete and copies have been mailed to men who attended one or more of the last three retreats. Rob Rudeen, of the Eugene Covenant Church, will be the song leader for the 2002 retreat. John Tissell was instructed to purchase wireless mikes before the retreat. The need is for both hand held and lapel. ALASKA: There are two schools starting this fall in the Soldotna area. The Amundsen Educational Center, which has been holding classes at Fairbanks, to teach trades such as small engine repair, carpentry and fiberglass boat building. The second is the Alaska Christian College, a one year Bible school. Credits earned at the College are transferable to North Park. The original plan was to locate the College in the Anchorage area but a suitable building, on acreage, was available for a very reasonable price in the Soldotna- Kenai area. Dave Petersen has been asked to serve in a maintenance capacity at the College. With Dave s heavy schedule, there is concern that he will not have time for this additional assignment. John Tissell will be driving to Soldotna leaving about June 11 and working two weeks at the school on phone and computer wiring and installing the phone system. Currently he has room for one additional worker on the drive north. At the end of the work, they will fly home. John and Kerm Paulsen will return to Alaska about August 11 to work on Kathy Irvine s house at North Pole. After completing this work, John will drive home and he currently has room for two volunteers to ride back. CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: The construction of the log cabins is progressing. Six should be ready by summer and 4 more by the summer of 2002. An engine has been located and purchased for the Train Camp. Currently the Camp is waiting for the septic permit to be approved. This approval must be obtained before applying for a building permit for the "Station" (meeting and dining room, showers and rest rooms) and Box Car Bunkhouses. Completion of the Train Camp will increase the camper capacity to 500. This increase will require an addition to the kitchen and the plan is to reach this goal in 5 to 6 years. The cost of completing Nisqually, adding the auditorium, will require a fund drive. CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING: Don Meyer, of Covenant publications, was a challenging speaker at the Men's breakfast. Twenty five men attended the breakfast. OTHER ITEMS: Several current bills were discussed. Moved, Seconded and Passed that the following bills be paid: Kerm Paulsen $379.84 for retreat brochure printing and mailing costs, Caroline Stoll $48.50 for kitchen items purchased at the OK of Covenant Men and the funds on hand designated to MARC be sent. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Sunday July 8 during preparation of the salmon barbecue, if there is need for a meeting, at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. John Tissell, Secretary |
