Men Board Meeting Present: Kerm Paulsen, Bud Olson, John Prouty, Harold Ulfers, Jeff Wolf and John Tissell The meeting opened with Bud reading from I Peter. Prayer was then offered by those present. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: The Sunday brunch will be earlier than usual (10:00 AM) in order to coordinate with another group. We'll have to carefully schedule the Sunday morning program. Various potential projects were discussed that need funding: Alaska Christian College, Amundsen Educational Center, Kathy Irvine's house, log cabin at Cascades and Mark Swenson (MARC). For several years there have been very few regular contributors to Covenant Men. Saturday evening the program should include information so that the Men will understand what Covenant Men do and what we plan to do. Several speakers may be scheduled to inform the men of what has been accomplished, where we are and what are the future needs. Potential speakers include Len Wickstrom (MARC), Jeff Siemers (Dean of Students at Alaska Christian College) and a representative from Cascades. It was suggested that pop corn be available at snack time. Board members were asked to loan board games for the men to use during their spare time. ALASKA: Dave Petersen has called and said Kathy's house is behind schedule due to several volunteers not completing their work as scheduled. It is not certain whether he will be needing help with the finish electrical (which was originally on John's schedule in August). SCHOLARSHIPS: Kerm will contact the Conference to obtain the names of seminary students from the North Pacific Conference. It was reaffirmed that the scholarships must be limited to full time students. CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: The sixth log cabin is nearing completion. Remaining items are insulation, interior finish, plumbing and electrical. There are 9 cabins funded and several more groups are in the process of raising money. The Camp will not start construction of a cabin until it is completely funded. The railroad steam engine has been obtained and is currently being transported to the Camp. The "key" septic permit has been obtained for the train camp. Actual construction will start when money is available. There are several well qualified applicants for the maintenance job. There is a need for volunteers to caulk and seal the log cabins. Dan would show the technique to any who were interested. Almost all of the bunk beds constructed by Covenant Men have been used. More beds should be constructed at the work weekend next year. Also there was discussion of building another 50 picnic tables. Covenant Men will develop a list of materials for the tables so the Camp can arrange to have the cedar lumber cut and allowed to dry. OTHER ITEMS: Candidates for board member positions are needed. Jeff Wolf agreed to allow his name to be on the ballot. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Saturday October 27 at 9:30 AM at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. John Tissell, Secretary |
