Covenant Men Board Meeting
Covenant Men Board Meeting April 13, 2002
Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, Dick Lundberg, John Prouty, Harold Ulfers, Jeff Wolf, John Prouty and John Tissell

The meeting opened with scripture from Hebrews 11. Prayer was then offered by those present, with particular emphasis on those ill or hurting.

FINANCES: The funds donated for Village Ministries and the Amundsen Educational Center have been sent.

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: John Prouty showed copies of the poster, bulletin inserts and registration forms that will included in the packet to be sent to each of the Conference Churches. The cost of printing was $210.89. The information will be posted to the Covenant Men web site. Last year a number of registrations were made using forms downloaded using the internet.

We have Timberidge and 8 log cabins reserved for the retreat. If attendance exceeds expectations, it will be necessary to use test for the overflow or to double up in Timberidge. The men attending need to be alerted that pledges will be received for the log cabin so that they will be prepared when the pledge forms are distributed.

We need to review and update the mission statement and vision for Covenant Men. Also need to explain our current emphasis on Alaska: KICY, AEC (Amundsen Educational Center), MARC (Missionary Aviation Repair Center) and ACC (Alaska Christian College). The men should be reminded that we are open to projects in the North Pacific Conference, but the only project referred to Covenant Men in recent years did not have a building permit and when we attempted to obtain the permit, we were informed that even the existing building was non conforming and the county building department had written to the church to bring this to their attention.

CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING: Scott Johnson will be the speaker at the Men's breakfast. We need to discuss the need for a liaison member from the Executive Board that lives close enough to be able to attend our board meeting.

ALASKA: Kerm and John will leaving Tuesday for Alaska. They will be wiring a parsonage at Galena and then move on to Soldotna to work on the first building at AEC and discuss possible summer volunteer work at AEC, MARC and ACC.

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Train piece parts are being obtained for the train camp. The site work is essentially complete. Actual construction will start as money is available. The Camp is preparing to conduct a fund drive to finance the train camp, completion of Nisqually (auditorium and expansion of the kitchen).

After the board meeting all board members stayed and completed the precutting of the lumber for the picnic tables. Sufficient lumber was available for 30 tables. We will need to complete one table prior to the scheduled assembly, Memorial Day weekend to be certain that the lumber (2x6's that are full 2 inches by 6 inches) will not make the table tops too wide. Sufficient 2x4's are available to allow replacing one 2x6 in the top with a 2x4.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Saturday May 18 at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. Final pre-drilling will be completed on the material for the picnic tables. With assembly planned the Memorial Day week end.
