Men Board Meeting Present: Jeff Wolf, John Prouty, Harold Ulfers, Bud Olson, Keith Olson, Tom Moline and John Tissell. The meeting was chaired by vice president Jeff Wolf and opened with scripture from Psalms 23. Prayer was then offered by those present with particular concern for Kerm's family after his sudden and unexpected death and thanks for Kerm's contribution to the leadership of Covenant Men and the work in Alaska. FINANCES: Donations to the general fund, for the year starting after the 2001 retreat are $40 and $80 for the log cabin. Receipts for the Alaska work are $1320 for village ministries and $560 for the Amundsen Educational Center. CURRENT AFFAIRS: The by laws were reviewed to determine the succession in event an officer dies. The by laws are silent on this. The consensus of the meeting was that Jeff Wolf should be acting president and Keith Olson fill Jeff's vice president position until the annual meeting at the 2002 retreat and elections. A nominating committee of Harold Ulfers, John Prouty and Jeff Wolf was appointed. The need for a "projects committee" to coordinate volunteer work was discussed, but no action was taken. John Prouty will update the web site to remove Kerm as the contact for additional retreat information. Since John Tissell posts the registrations, he'll be available to respond to inquiries. FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION (September 27-29): The brochures for the 2002 retreat have been picked up from Kerm's by Dick Lundberg. The conference office will be contacted for address labels in the event that the envelopes have not already been labeled. It was suggested that Kent Egging be contacted to find if he is available and willing to MC the fall retreat. Another suggestion was Bud Palmberg. It is time to start the search for a speaker for the 2003 retreat. The first suggestion was Art Greco who was scheduled to speak in 2002 but was unable when it was determined that the retreat was one week earlier than usual. Cascades explanation is that this is due to dates moving one day ahead each year, however the Women's retreat was not moved back one week to maintain the two week separation between the two retreats. Other speaker suggestions were Brad Hill, Jim Sundholm and Henry Greenidge. Newport Covenant will be contacted to determine the person in charge of their music group that Kerm made arrangements with to take charge of the music at the retreat. ALASKA: John appealed for a volunteer to fill the void left by Kerm's death. He is planning an early August trip north and will be doing promised work at AEC (Amundsen Educational Center) and MARC (Missionary Aviation Repair Center). There may be need for help also at the Alaska Christian College. CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Kerm's family is directing memorial gifts to Cascades to build a log cabin in memory of Kerm. The possibility that log cabin donations to the cabin proposed by Covenant Men should be combined with these gifts to speed the construction of a cabin dedicated to Kerm was discussed. The planning for construction of the Train camp is proceeding. Box car parts are being purchased as they are available. A restroom has been added to the plans for the bunk house box cars. There is discussion of a possible trade of a portion of the Moss property for a 15 acre future church site at the intersection of two main arterial roads in Yelm. Covenant men will furnish the labor to barbecue the salmon for the Sunday dinner at family camp. The camp will provide all kitchen and serving help. Jeff Wolf will head the work group with help promised by Keith and Bud Olson and Harold Ulfers. Cascades will provide the alder wood and purchase the salmon. NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be 10:30 AM Saturday July 20 at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. July 20 is also the day Covenant Men were scheduled to instruct a volunteer group at Warm Beach in the construction of bunk beds. The date was set by Kerm and John the evening before Kerm was rushed to the hospital. Since Kerm was one of the two men experienced with directing bunk bed and picnic table construction, there is a need to train additional men. John Tissell, Secretary |
