Covenant Men Board Meeting
Covenant Men Board Meeting May 18, 2002
Cascades Camp and Conference Center

Present: Kerm Paulsen, Dick Lundberg, Harold Ulfers, Jeff Wolf, Bud Olson, Keith Olson and John Tissell

The meeting opened with scripture from Proverbs 18. Prayer was then offered by those present.

FINANCES: Donations to the general fund, for the year starting after the 2001 retreat are only $35 and $70 for the log cabin. Receipts for the Alaska work are $1315 for Village Ministries and $530 for the Amundsen Educational Center.

FALL RETREAT DISCUSSION: The brochures for the 2002 retreat should be mailed in June. Kerm is organizing the mailing.

CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING: The men's breakfast at the Conference Annual Meeting was well attended.

ALASKA: Kerm and John reported on their April trip to Alaska. With Dave Petersen's help, they wired the two story parsonage in Galena in 2-1/2 days. They then flew down to Soldotna and surveyed the work to be done next summer at MARC (Missionary Aviation Repair Center), ACC (Alaska Christian College) and AEC (Amundsen Educational Center.) The building at AEC was not far enough completed for the wiring which was planned for this trip. They expect to return during the summer and work at both MARC and AEC.

There may also be work at ACC if the scheduled work parties do not complete the two building projects. An interesting side light of their trip was being forced to fly commercial from Fairbanks to Galena because the volunteer who had promised to fly them was unable to because of bad weather. The weight limits for commercial required them to leave some tools at Fairbanks and take only the clothes they were wearing. The items left were to be taken to Galena when the weather cleared, only the weather did not clear. MARC was able to fly Kerm, Dave and John to Soldotna late Saturday and they immediately washed their clothes so at least their jeans would be clean for church on Sunday.

The weather finally did clear enough for the volunteer pilot to get the gear to Eagle River the next week while on a business trip to Palmer. The director of AEC was making a trip to Anchorage and gave Kerm and John a ride. They rented a car in Anchorage, stopped at Eagle River on their way to the Mat-Su Covenant Church at Wasilla and picked up their gear. During their 24 hour layover at Mat-Su they were able to correct several problems that they first heard about via a relayed phone message while at Galena. The combination of events that enabled Kerm and John to get to Mat-Su on this trip was a major miracle. (From Galena, they had earlier called the church at Wasilla and said they wouldn't be able to get there until the next trip scheduled for late July.)

CASCADES CAMP AND CONFERENCE CENTER: Additional advance work on lumber for the picnic tables was scheduled for after the board meeting. Actual assembly will be May 25 and 27.

NEXT MEETING: The next board meeting will be Saturday June 22 at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. Any remaining work on the picnic tables will be done after the meeting.

John Tissell, Secretary

Note: The picnic tables were completed May 20 so the work after the meeting will be repair of old tables and repair of defective GFI outlets in the RV hookups at Liberty Ridge.
