Men Board Meeting
February 15, 2003
Attending: John Prouty (President); Jeff Wolf (Recording
Secretary); Harold Ulfers (Stewardship Committee Chair), Bud Olson (Advisory
Committee Member).
*Quorum not present; no official business conducted.
Opening Meditation: Bud Olson.
Prayer: Praise, thanks, requests and petition for God to lead
Covenant Men in doing HIS work.
Agenda Reviewed: John Prouty, President
Read previous meeting minutes: Jeff Wolf read the meeting
minutes for the January 11 meeting which need to be re-reviewed at the next
meeting.
Financial Secretary Report:
John Prouty read Dick’s report. John recommended transferring $155 in
late 2002 retreat registration receipts to the general fund and $100 to Kerm’s
cabin fund.
Treasurer Report: Bud read Keith’s report which recommended
the following.
● Close the Smith Barney account and split the funds
between the scholarship fund and National Covenant Properties. Keith will
verify the signatory parties on the account by the next meeting. John
Prouty recommended taking $2,000 out of the reserve fund to cover the scholarship
expenditures this year and further investigating closing of the Smith Barney
account.
● Convert two variable NPC Certificates to fixed
rates. The board will discuss this issue at the next meeting.
Project Committee Report: John Prouty discussed the Cascades
Camp projects listed below.
● Concrete park benches will be constructed this
spring by volunteers; Jeff Wolf will coordinate with the camp.
● After the meeting today, the board will peel logs
for cabins currently under construction. Another church will help peel the
remainder of the logs at a future work party.
● Tom and Jeff will meet to verify the location and
layout for the re-construction of the existing barbeque pit away from the
building.
● Alaska Educational Center sent thanks to CovMen for
help with wiring the new shop building.
● Interbay Covenant sent thanks to CovMen for work on
their phone system.
Stewardship Report: No report.
Executive Board Report: No report.
Camp Board Report: Tom Moline noted that the camp is
commencing the capital fundraising campaign. A six month major donor phase will
start this fall with one or two years of general fundraising events to follow.
Special committees are being setup to help with the effort as follows: Prayer;
Parent/Alumni; Special Events; and Pastoral relations. The camp has began
recruiting summer staff. He also noted that winter retreat rentals are
increasing.
Old Business:
2003 Retreat Planning-
Retreat registration fees were discussed fees were proposed
as follows: An $82 general fee, $35 for meals only and $60 for Friday/Saturday
only. The amounts will be confirmed at the next meeting.
Retreat Publicity- John Prouty is preparing the retreat
brochures which are to be distributed at the annual meeting in April.
Log cabin funds- The 2003 fundraiser donations will be
presented to the camp at the 2003 retreat annual meeting.
Defining Covenant Men: Due to time constraints;
discussion is deferred until the next meeting.
New Business:
● Approve delegates for the annual meeting- John
Prouty and Harold Ulfers were recommended. They will be confirmed at the
next meeting.
● Annual Meeting- Jeff Wolf will prepare the annual
report and present the draft at the next meeting. John Prouty will setup the
location and speaker for the breakfast event. John will forward the event
information and the annual report to the conference office so the event can be
publicized and the report can be included in the conference meeting agenda. He
will also present the report at the breakfast.
● Website updates- Jeff Wolf will forward approved meeting minutes to
the webmaster. Other updates will be discussed at the next meeting.
Next Meeting: At Cascades Camp on March 15, 2003 at 9:30am.
