Project Committee Report: Discussion led by John Tissell
(Project Committee Chair)
· North Seattle Christian
School- John worked on their phone system last month.
· Alaska Christian College,
Soldatna, AK (ACC)- We may be requested to help construct a new dorm in summer
2003. We have committed to help with the new digital phone system in August
2003; we need to advertise a request for expert help in the conference news.
· Alaska Educational Center,
Soldatna, AK (AEC)- Staff are currently sheet-rocking the new shop; we might
be asked to help install light fixtures soon. Construction of new dorms is not
financed yet; we may be requested to help in summer of 2003.
· Alaska Churches- No major
projects firmed up. John will discuss bush projects with Dave Petersen and
others to verify projects for summer of 2003.
· Project Liaison Positions-
Tom Moline will continue looking for a Cascades Camp liaison position; Jeff
Wolf will serve as the coordinator in the interim. Still need local NPC church
and Alaska (road system) project coordinators.
· Cascades Camp Projects- Need
approx. (20) exposed aggregate concrete park benches constructed this spring.
Tom and Jeff will research a new location for the existing barbeque pit away
from the building.
· KICY Radio (Nome, AK)- There
are (12) proposed projects on the station’s website including adding a
handicap access to the rear of the studio. John will verify if we will be
involved.
· Interbay Covenant- They need
help to re-install the existing phone system which had been removed for
another project.
John Tissell and Jeff Wolf to prepare a list of projects and
forward to a volunteer to get written up for the conference news. We also need
to video tape the next project that uses bunk bed and picnic table templates for
training use on future projects.
Stewardship Report: Discussion led by Harold Ulfers
(Stewardship Committee Chair)
· Harold noted that
approximately $1,200 in pledges are yet to be received for Kerm’s memorial
cabin fund. He will forward the totals to Jeff Mattson for posting on the
website. He will work with Dick to send reminders in March/April to those who
have outstanding pledges. Tom noted that Kerm’s cabin is tentatively
scheduled for construction in the winter of 2006.
Executive Board Report- (None discussed.)
Camp Board Report- John Prouty noted that the camp was in
debt $900,000 last year after purchasing the new airstrip property. After
subdividing and selling unneeded portions, they are only $26,000 in debt. This
amount is anticipated to be paid off soon with timber sale proceeds. The camp is
now actively pursuing purchase of a portion of the property across the lake. He
also discussed that the camp needs help with various projects as previously
noted in the projects report above.
Old Business- (None discussed.)
2003 Retreat Planning:
Retreat Date- October 3-5
Speaker Info.- John Prouty will get the speakers
"bio." from the conference office and paste into the brochure
template.
Retreat Topic- " ‘A Man and HIS Mission’; God’s
mission for a man on the personal and world level."
Retreat Publicity- We will plan on sending out the retreat
brochures at the annual meeting in April.
Defining Covenant Men:
What is a Covenant Men group at the local church level? A
group of men in a local Covenant church that meet together to support and
encourage each other in their walk of faith and service to Christ.
What are Covenant Men at the conference level? (We will
research the past history of Covenant Men.)
How can we be more effective at the conference level? (We
will continue working on this and the items below.)
Mission Statement-
Vision Statement-
Values Statement-
New Business:
Scholarships- John Prouty will verify the number of
full-time Covenant seminary students with the conference office and will
distribute a total approved amount of $2,000 between them. John Tissell will
forward the list of past seminary students to Jeff Wolf for him to update with
the new students.
Discussed a potential 2003 retreat fundraising project to
raise support for Mark Swensen family to cover debt from mission aviation
school and expenses for moving to the mission field. (Marc Swensen is a
Mission Aviation Repair Center (MARC) pilot/mechanic stationed with his wife
and three young children in Soldatna, AK.)
Will research a revision of the CovMen bylaws at a future
date to allow Covenant "Church Members" and "Regular Attenders"
voting rights at the annual meetings rather than for "Elected Church
Reps." only.
Need to continue updating the CovMen website. (i.e.-
Post draft meeting agendas, meeting minutes, pending projects and the CovMen
mission.)
Next Meeting: At Cascades Camp on February 15, 2003 at
9:30am.
