Financial Secretary Report: Dick reviewed the finance report which was approved as amended to show deposits on November 3 and 4 in the 2004 fiscal year.

Treasurer Report:

  • Keith/John P. wrote a check for $5,695 to supplement $6,305 already forwarded by Kerm’s memorial fund to cover balance of $12,000 cabin sponsorship and forwarded it to the camp.

  • Checks for designated missions donations, supplemented by a portion of general offering, had been distributed in the last month as follows: AEC- $500; KICY- $280; MARC Pilot- $120; and Village Ministries-$550.

Project Committee Report:

  • John T. noted that Rodney Sawyer, Alaska Covenant Field Director, requested verification of the amount pledged for the 2004 Alaska fundraiser project (to establish a Christian-based substance abuse treatment near Unalakleet, Alaska) so he can request a matching grant from the national Covenant office. We will send out a reminder notice to retreat attendees in early 2004 to forward any additional pledges ASAP as well as request payment of previous pledges. Donations in the amount of $1,421 have been received to date. The board voted to send a check for $2,500 to Rodney to get the matching grant process started.

  • 1917 Steam engine locomotive restoration project:

Construction of the new train camp will start in January 2004 pending receipt of a building permit. The locomotive restoration that is scheduled to start this spring needs to be completed by spring 2005. Tom will forward information on the locomotive to Jeff.

The Point Defiance logging camp in Tacoma has a similar engine that has not restored for comparison. They also have a 1910 vintage caboose which has been offered to the camp.

The Tahoma lodge has a bell which is planned to be used at the train camp.

  • Bar-B-Que Pit:

The project is on hold until John T. completes review of train camp structural plans.

Camp Board Report: Tom noted that $280k has been pledged to date by camp board, staff and committee members towards the current $2.95M capital improvement projects. ($1.7M of the total will be needed for the train camp, Kitchen expansion and new meeting room.) The official fundraiser dinners will start in February 2004.

Old Business:

2004 Retreat Planning-

  • Michael Ryan has agreed to be the 2004 retreat speaker.

New Business:

  • Bunk beds: Tom requested (10) bunk beds for two new log cabins being completed around the June 2004 timeframe. Note that we have (5) remaining beds stored in the shop. We need to verify that all pieces are there and still useable. Need to cut a minimum of (5) more beds using templates stored at John T’s. garage.

Next Meeting: At Camp of the Cascades on January 10, 2004 at 9:30am.
