Meeting Time/Location: 10am/Cascades Camp & Conference Center, Yelm, WA

Attending: John Tissell (Vice-President); Jeff Wolf (Recording Secretary); Dick Lundberg (Financial Secretary); Keith Olson (Treasurer); Harold Ulfers (Stewardship Committee Chair); Tom Moline (Cascades Camp Director) and Bud Olson (Member at large).

Opening Meditation/Prayer: Dick Lundberg (I Peter 4:10 and on) "The Purpose Driven Life" We are custom made by God to serve him.

Agenda Approved: John T. discussed the agenda which was approved as presented.

Read/approve previous meeting minutes: Jeff Wolf read the minutes for the February 7, 2004 meeting which were approved as amended.

Financial Secretary Report: Dick Lundberg reviewed the finance report which was approved. Contributions were received in the amount of $450 through March 5.

Treasurer Report:

  • Keith reviewed the Treasurer report. The current net savings balance is $933.38 which includes a $649 deficit for the 2004 Missions project; $575.11 in general; $40 in MARC general; $50 in MARC Pilot; and $320 in the Village Ministries fund. Fund distributions will be held until next month. Keith forwarded a check to deposit from National Covenant Properties in the amount of $2,250. The funds were withdrawn to cover the 2004 scholarship distribution.

Project Committee Report:

  • 2004 Missions Project- Harold noted that (84) postcard pledge reminders were sent last month with (4) response checks received as of March 12.

  • Alaska- John T. discussed potential projects as noted below. We need to start publicizing projects at the annual meeting.

ACC- They need computer and phone work in September 2004. They’re planning on expanding the kitchen/dining room facilities.

AEC- They plan to start work on a 2nd dorm cabin and multi-purpose building.

Mat-Su Covenant Church- Needs phone work in their new building in September.

  • Cascades- Jeff discussed pending projects as follows:

Park Benches- Setting up a project to construct around a dozen concrete park benches. The work party dates will most likely be May 8 and June 12.

Bunk beds- Jeff noted that assembled wood parts for (10) bunk beds will be stained on April 10. The beds will be assembled on May 8 if the first new cabin is ready, otherwise the work will be scheduled for June 12. Beds for the second cabin will be assembled after its ready later this year.

1917 Steam engine locomotive restoration project:

Tom noted that the Yollo Short Line in Woodland, CA, previously owned the camp’s locomotive and might have information needed for the restoration. He also noted that Jim Edwards, at Crossroads Covenant, might be interested in working on the project. Need to verify whether a locomotive tender car will be added to the project and whether a "reproduction" or real caboose will be used. The camp is also looking for a hand pump rail car. The project planning phase is scheduled to commence in May 2004 with the restoration to start in September. The work will need to be completed before the Train Camp opens in spring 2005.

Portable Barbeque Pit- The project is still on hold with a completion date in May 2005 in time for the 4th of July camp salmon barbeque.

  • Camp Board Report: Tom noted that work on the 2nd cabin and temporary power for the Train camp was started. The Train camp waterline installation will start soon under the direction of project manager Ken Thomson. Construction of the (4) red Sunrise Ranch cabins is nearing completion. Large numbers of camp staff applications and camper registrations are coming in. Tom noted that a total of $850,000 in pledges have been received towards the capital campaign out of the $1.6M minimum goal.

Old Business:

2004 Retreat Planning-

  • Discussed the contract for the 2004 Fall Retreat. The camp requested confirmation of a minimum guarantee of 104 attendees. (A total of (80) attendees in Timber Ridge and (24) in (3) log cabins.)

  • Revise CovMen Bylaws- No discussion.

New Business:

  • 2005 Missions Project- The board approved support of the Cascades capital campaign in 2005. There will also be an offering at the 2004 retreat for Alaska missions.

  • 2004 Scholarship distribution- Keith will distribute (3) scholarship checks at $750 each this month to the full-time seminary students. The total scholarship distribution through 2004 is 70 scholarships to 46 students in the total amount of $24,120.

  • 2004 NPC Annual Meeting- John P. will present the 2003/2004 annual report at the May 1

meeting to be held at McMinnville Covenant Church in McMinnville, OR. The host church confirmed that they will host the Saturday morning CovMen breakfast at the church and provide the speaker.
