Covenant Men Board Meeting
Board Meeting; West Hills Covenant Church, Portland, September 8, 2007

Attending: John Prouty, Harold Ulfers, Mark Cook and John Tissell

The meeting was called to order at 10:10 am

The meeting opened with Mark Cook reading Psalms 36.

This was followed with each person present prayed for wisdom in discussing the business at hand and for expressed prayer requests.

The quorum was established.

The agenda for the meeting was presented and approved.

The minutes from the meeting May 12, 2007 were approved as printed on the web site.

The finance reports (income and expense) were reviewed and approved. Checks were approved to be written to Amundsen Educational Center in the amount of $1,478 and to Village Ministries (Missionary Aviation Repair Center) in the amount of $775. $200 was sent to Cascades Camp and Conference Center for a portion of the cost of a flash recorder. Covenant Women paid the remainder.

Dick Lundberg, Bud Olson and John Tissell are working on a history of Covenant Men. This is to be shown at the fall retreat and as part of the Covenant Men's booth at the North Pacific Annual Meeting and other Covenant occasions.

The report from the salmon barbecue was good. The temperature of the new barbecue "pit" was held low enough to allow the fish to properly cook.

Only two of the four scholarships reserved for Alaska guests have been spoken for (Missionary Aviation Repair Center and Amundsen Educational Center). Since there is no refund on the payment, other persons to take the prepaid scholarships were discussed.  Mark Cook agreed to pay Covenant Men for one.

The fall retreat was discussed. Harold will bring the Lemonade machine if it is functional.  Volunteers are being sought to help man some of the activities on Saturday.  The Board will cook and server the meat for dinner Saturday night.  John P. will call for the offering after Josh presents this year’s missions project: Covenant Bible Camp.  The board will meet after the Saturday evening session to start the discernment process on the evening’s offering and consider any mid-course corrections to the retreat.

This is the fiftieth retreat so there will be a cake commenting the occasion Friday evening. The retreat speaker, Rev. Donn Englebretson will make special note before the Friday evening session.  Covenant Men were first organized in 1941 with the first retreat held in 1956 at Garland Mineral Springs. No retreat was held in 1961 due to a conflict with a Conference Retreat. The records (minutes) are lacking before 1967. Anyone who has records for the period of 1941 to 1967 is asked to notify a board member. The original records will be returned after photo copying. The record of retreats is complete except for the fourth retreat.

The next meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am, November 10, 2007 at Cascades Camp and Conference Center.
